toli toli conservation historyThe activities of making this marine park we do because of our concern for the survival of marine biota, especially the Giant Clams  (Tridacna), starting on October 2009, we had forming a small team to begin of realizing the idea. By using personal expenses and some donations from friends and family, and with improvised equipment, we started doing conservation (survey, diving, transfer, settlement and maintenance). Day and night our team started looking for the area that was formerly a natural habitat of various marine biota, starting with collecting various spesis shellfish, especially the clams. Likewise with sea plants, coral reefs and various other marine animals spesis such as starfish, sea cucumbers, ornamental fish, lobster and other marine biota. The marine biota we collected from several islands that are near from our village and several other islands in the surrounding.

Finally on day of Friday, January 1, 2010, at 17:00, we started to put the first 5 Giant Clams  in the marine park and until this time we have been collected and preserved as many as 8,150 Giant Clams from various species, 73 Giant Clam of which has a size over 75 cm. Continue the survey to determining the location for this marine park we did starting from sea cliffs of the Batu Gong till Toronipa peninsula, and from these surveys, we determine the main location is in the Nii - Tanasa village and Toli-Toli village and surrounding area since this area only has sea mountain (rab) is close to the beach.

All of these marine biota that we place it, organized and maintained naturally in the sea cliff area and the sea mountain (rab) along the four miles in four villages, namely : Rapambinopaka Village, Nii - Tanasa Village, Toli-Toli Village and Wawobungi Village, with the center of concentration in the five sea mountain (rab) in the Nii - Tanasa Village and Toli-Toli Village.

From the data we currently have that in Indonesia there is a several big Giant Clams with size was 1.8-meter (1 giant clam) in the area of Gulf Cendrawasih, Papua and the Giant Clam measured about 2 meters (1 Giant clam and exact size unknown) was in Wakatobi Marine Park, is also still the province of Southeast Sulawesi, and the others Giant Clam size was 1.5 meters (3 giant clam) are in Bunaken Marine Park, Manado, North Sulawesi. All of this giant clam in Eastern Indonesia. And if these activities performing well, then this marine park will become the first marine park clam in Indonesia which is integrated with a variety of other marine biota.

We do hope of this marine park can be a natural place in the ocean and could be a tourism object for diving, Conservation Center for various marine biota, as well as a place of education and research for students that had a positive impact on economic improvement and empowerment of coastal communities and fishermen in particular in our village, eventually will create conditions to support each other between nature and human life that will give awareness of the importance of protecting, preserving and conserving nature, especially marine biota.

Location of this marine park is situated lane beach, only 18 km from the city of Kendari, the capital province of Southeast Sulawesi. Facilities at the main roads have also mostly good, the access to this place becomes more easy and affordable.
