We are Volunteers Conservation.
Toli-toli Volunteers Conservation Giant Clam Ocean Marine Park is the first of Giant Clam Marine Park in Indonesia, especially in South East Sulawesi, which has been preserved about seven species type of Giant Clam (Tridacna) of Tridacna Gigas, Derasa Tridacna, Tridacna squamosa, Tridacna Maxima, Tridacna Crocea, Hippopus - Hippopus and Hippopus Pocellanus, from nine species there in the World. This marine park is expected to be Marine Laboratory Base on the high seas for purposes of Education, Research, Tourism, Clam Conservation, Sea vegetables, Coral Reef, Scallops, Sea Star, Sea cucumbers, ornamental fish, lobster and other various Marine Biota.
We are people from a small villages, name it Toli Toli Village, Sub-district Lalonggasumeeto, Konawe Regency, Kendari, South East Sulawesi, felt compelled to do something for the Save of nature conservation, particularly the marine environment and its contents, due to a sense of concern over the fact that there is; that some large marine biota has been on the verge of extinction, the government's efforts in tackling this problem is not maximized, even almost said no matter, the fact that there is, especially for the conservation of the Giant Clam.
Exploitation of marine biota and the current results were already over-not only by fishermen, but also by the fishing companies for various purposes. In Indonesia especially in Kendari and Konawe Regency, South East Sulawesi (Celebes), today his condition was very alarming, especially plants and coral reefs, including marine biota Giant Clam (Tridacna), are increasingly worried.
Exploitation of these activities can be ascertained the survival of the endangered marine biota, the process of the exploitation are usually using potassium cyanide and explosives to reproduce the catch and it has been damaged and destroyed various marine biota, including marine biota type of Giant Clam (Tridacna). Now marine biota of this clam is increasingly scarce and rarely found, and tend to become extinct.
Giant Clam (Tridacna) meat consumption by many people because it has high protein levels to become a special menu in a restaurant, and made her skin decoration and became one of the raw materials for ceramics, the Giant Clam much hunted by the various groups that make life increasingly threatened.
Other causes that make Giant Clam (Tridacna) more rare is a slow growth rate. To reach 100 cm in length just biota requires time to grow up to hundreds of years, the egg cell has always been coveted by other creatures, especially fish. From the millions of eggs produced, which can survive up to be a clam just a few dozen tail only, in addition to the marine biota that live in regional rocks and sand in the Indian Ocean and South Pacific, and even not all areas have a warm ocean biota giant clam, so the Giant Clam most only found in some ASEAN countries plus Korea, China and some Eastern, Northern Australia, Southern part of Central Asia, Africa and South America.
Giant Clam (Tridacna) is known to have nine species, the Tridacna Gigas, Tridacna Derasa, Tridacna Squamosa, Tridacna Maxima, Tridacna Crocea, Tridacna Tevoroa, Tridacna Rosewate, Hippopus-Hippopus and Hippopus Porcellanus and live in the shallow sea to a depth of 20 meters. Each can be recognized by spesis skin types. There is a scaly, soft, thick, thin, and skin color and shape.
Giant clams (Tridacna) are one of the most ecologically important organisms in a coral reef, known as a keystone species. Like hard corals, Giant clams use symbiotic zooanthallae algae to produce a shell that adds to the reef structure. In addition to this, they clean nutrients from the water that could otherwise go towards the growth of macroalgae, smothering and killing corals.
Giant Clam (Tridacna) is the savior of the earth. Every single of the giant clam able to filter and clean of tons seawater per day from various types of particles. From the results of these filters, sea water becomes clean and then became auxiliary to the growth and maintain the color of coral reefs, fish and other marine biota. Unfortunately due to human activities, the Giant Clam (Tridacna) are now on the verge of extinction.
Our Team concentration is the preservation of the environment, especially the ocean, and empower coastal communities and fishermen, both insight and economically.
